Our Expert Take on the Ceragem Master S4
The Ceragem Master S4 is a product that requires a slightly different frame of reference than a traditional massage chair — because it is not one. It is a thermal spinal massage lounger, and the distinction is important. Where a conventional massage chair sits upright and addresses your body from a seated position, the S4 operates as a reclined wellness bed: you lie down, the patented spinal scanner reads your exact spinal geometry, and heated rollers travel from your neck to your lower back delivering targeted pressure at 149°F. The experience is fundamentally different from what most people associate with massage chair ownership, and for the right buyer, it is considerably more effective at what they actually need.
What makes the S4 stand apart is the combination of genuine therapeutic credentials and serious design intention. It is an FDA Cleared Class II medical device — not a claim made loosely, but a federal classification that distinguishes it from the wellness appliances that populate most product pages. The patented spinal scanning technology is the same generation (3rd Gen Ceracore) found in Ceragem’s V4 and V5 models, which have their own track record of therapeutic effectiveness. The distinction the S4 introduces is form: the V4 and V5 are flat wellness beds, functional and effective but unapologetically utilitarian in appearance. The S4 was engineered to fold into the geometry of a low-profile ottoman or bench, finished in neutral tones and comfort fabric, so that it belongs in the same room as the furniture you already chose.
The dual reclining system — upper body to 150° and footrest to 80° independently — gives users the flexibility to use the S4 in a fully flat therapeutic position or a more casual semi-reclined reading posture. The included abdominal massager extends coverage to the front of the torso, addressing a body area that most spinal massage products ignore entirely. And the 12 modes (7 automatic, 5 manual) span the range from a morning mobilization program to a targeted single-vertebra session for days when one area needs specific attention.
Two things are worth being honest about. The S4 does not provide arm, shoulder, calf, or foot massage — its focus is spinal and thermal, and buyers who want comprehensive full-body compression coverage should look at different products. And unlike a traditional massage chair, the experience requires lying down, which suits some households and routines very naturally, and less so for others. Call 888-612-8862 and we will give you a direct read on whether the S4 matches what you are actually looking for.
What We Love
- FDA Cleared Class II Medical Device — A meaningful distinction backed by federal standards. Not every product claiming therapeutic benefit can say this.
- Patented auto spinal scanning — The session begins by reading your body specifically. The rollers adjust to your spinal geometry before the first stroke, not after.
- 149°F in under 10 minutes — Thermal therapy that reaches therapeutic temperature fast, concentrating heat along the spine where it supports the mechanical work of the rollers most effectively.
- Proven 3rd Gen Ceracore engine — The same generation used in Ceragem’s established V4 and V5 bed models. Therapeutic track record already in the field.
- Dual independent reclining — Upper body and footrest adjust separately, giving you a range of positions from fully flat to semi-upright. One of the most practically useful comfort features on any wellness bed.
- Genuinely furniture-like when folded — At 17.5 inches tall in its folded position, the S4 is one of the few wellness devices that can share a room with your actual furniture without visual conflict.
- Abdominal massager included — Front-body thermal and vibration coverage is in the box. Most comparable devices stop at the back.
- Lightweight relative to its category — At 114.6 lbs, the S4 is substantially easier to manage and reposition than a full massage chair, which matters for households where the device needs to move between rooms or be stored periodically.
Worth Knowing
- The massage focus is spinal and thermal — not full-body compression — The S4 works the back and spine with heated rollers and includes an abdominal massager, but it does not have air cells, calf compression, foot rollers, or shoulder/arm massage. If full-body compression from shoulders to feet is a primary goal, a traditional massage chair will serve that need better. Call us and we will help you compare honestly.
- Designed for a lying-down session — Unlike a seated massage chair, the S4 is used fully or semi-reclined. Most users find this deeply comfortable once they settle into it, but it is a different routine than sitting in a chair for 20 minutes. The dual recline system helps you find a position that feels natural.
- Recommended height range is 4’0” to 6’1” — The spinal scanning system is calibrated for users between 47.2 and 73.2 inches tall. Users outside this range should call before ordering to confirm fit with our product team.
- Spinal scanning re-runs at the start of each session — The S4 does not store individual user profiles. Each person who uses the device gets a fresh scan at the start of their session, which means it adapts correctly for every household member but requires a brief setup moment at the beginning of each use.
Our Verdict
The Ceragem Master S4 is the right answer for buyers who want FDA-cleared spinal thermal therapy in a form that actually fits into a modern home — not a compromise between clinical effectiveness and everyday aesthetics, but a product that delivers both. Best for buyers with chronic back and spinal tension, those who have found seated massage chairs less effective for back-specific relief, and households where design integration and space efficiency are genuine constraints. Look elsewhere if you need full-body air compression from shoulders to feet, or if a seated (upright) massage experience fits your routine better than a lying-down session.

Who Is This Lounger Best For?
The Chronic Back and Spine Sufferer
You deal with persistent spinal tension, stiffness, or lower back compression from sitting, standing, or simply the accumulated load of daily life. The S4’s FDA-cleared thermal roller system addresses the spine directly — with heat that reaches therapeutic temperature fast and rollers calibrated to your specific spinal geometry, session after session.
The Design-Conscious Homeowner
You want the benefits of a therapeutic wellness device but you have spent real effort curating your living space and a large mechanical chair does not belong in it. The S4 folds to a refined, furniture-grade profile in neutral tones that integrates into modern interiors the way a thoughtfully chosen ottoman would — and unfolds into a full therapeutic session when you need it.
The Space-Constrained Household
You live in an apartment, a smaller home, or a room where a full 250–350 lb massage chair simply cannot go. At 114.6 lbs and a folded footprint that resembles a low bench, the S4 delivers medical-grade spinal therapy in a form that works within the square footage you actually have.
When to Consider a Different Model
If full-body coverage including air compression at the shoulders, calves, and feet is part of what you are looking for, the S4’s focused spinal design will not fulfill that need. A traditional seated massage chair with a full airbag system would be the more complete answer.
If you want more massage modes and additional features like an air cell leg massager at a comparable price point, the Ceragem V7 is worth considering — it offers 17 modes and an abdominal thermal projector in the traditional flat-bed form. Call 888-612-8862 and we will walk through the trade-offs in about two minutes.
If you want a deeply therapeutic seated massage chair experience with dual mechanisms and full-body compression, the Osaki OS-Pro 4D DuoMax or Luraco i9 Max Plus are in a different category altogether — and we are happy to help you understand where the S4 and those chairs diverge.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is the S4 different from the Ceragem V4 and V5?
All three share the same 3rd Generation Ceracore engine and patented spinal scanning technology. The difference is in form factor and features. The V4 and V5 are flat wellness beds that slide away into a lower-profile couch or ottoman shape; they are optimized for lying completely flat and offer more massage modes (17 vs 12). The S4 is a dual-reclining lounger — the upper body and built-in footrest adjust independently (up to 150° and 80° respectively), and when not in use it folds to a more compact and aesthetically furniture-like profile. The S4 also includes an abdominal massager. If mode variety and the traditional flat-bed experience are your priority, the V4 or V5 may be the better fit. If design integration and a dual-recline format suit your space and routine better, the S4 has advantages that the V-series does not. Call 888-612-8862 and we will help you sort through the differences.
Is the Ceragem S4 really an FDA Cleared medical device?
Yes. The Ceragem Master S4 is an FDA Cleared Class II medical device — the same designation that applies across the Ceragem Master line. This is a federal classification that distinguishes it from wellness appliances making unverified therapeutic claims, and it means the device has been evaluated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for its intended use: temporary relief of minor muscle and joint pain stiffness, promoting muscle relaxation, and supporting local circulation. No imported massage chair brand has obtained this designation for their products.
How does the return policy work?
We offer easy, no-questions-asked 30-day returns. If the S4 is not the right fit within 30 days of delivery, contact us and we will arrange pickup — there is no freight for you to coordinate on your own. We have maintained an A+ BBB Rating since 2005, and standing behind our returns is a core part of how we have kept it.
What is the warranty?
The Ceragem Master S4 carries a standard 3-year limited warranty: Year 1 covers both parts and labor, and Years 2 and 3 cover parts only. An extended 2-year warranty upgrade is available for $349, bringing total coverage to 3 years labor and 5 years parts. Call 888-612-8862 with any warranty questions.
What are the size and height limits?
The S4’s spinal scanning system is designed for users between 47.2 inches and 73.2 inches tall (approximately 4 feet to 6 feet 1 inch). Users outside this range should contact us before ordering so we can confirm fit. The lounger weighs approximately 114.6 lbs. In its unfolded position it measures 84 inches wide by 29.4 inches deep and 8.74 inches tall. Folded, it is 52 inches wide by 29.4 inches deep by 17.5 inches tall.
How much space does the S4 need?
Unfolded for a session, the S4 requires a space 84 inches long by 29.4 inches wide — roughly 7 feet by 2.5 feet on the floor. When folded, it stands 17.5 inches tall and 52 inches wide, fitting along a wall, in a closet, or styled as a low bench or ottoman. Its 114.6 lb weight makes repositioning manageable for most households without additional equipment.

We offer a best price guarantee, free shipping, and no sales tax outside of New Jersey. Every unit ships 100% brand new from the manufacturer. When you call 888-612-8862, you speak with someone who has direct experience with these products — not a script.
What financing is available?
We offer financing through Affirm (0%–36% APR based on creditworthiness; check your rate at checkout without affecting your credit score) and PayPal Credit (0% interest for eligible buyers for up to 6 months).
Is the S4 worth it compared to ongoing massage appointments?
For buyers focused primarily on back and spinal tension, the S4 addresses the specific therapeutic mechanism — heated roller pressure calibrated to your spinal geometry — with a consistency and frequency that professional appointments can rarely match. The daily habit is where results compound. Most buyers who use the chair regularly find the economics compare favorably to ongoing professional sessions within 18–24 months. Call 888-612-8862 for an honest assessment of whether it addresses your specific situation.
What colors are available?
Brown, Beige, and Gray — all at the same list price.

Do I need White Glove Setup or can I do it myself?
- The chairs are simple to setup. It only takes about 20 minutes. The only reason setup is required is because most chairs ship with the arms detached to make it narrower, lighter and easier to move into your home.
- The setup is basically just screwing the arms to the chair. It includes easy to follow instructions and does not require special tools or skills. There are also wheels on the bottom of the chair to make it easier to move.
- If you want them to setup the chair inside your home, please select the option for “White Glove Setup”. We don't recommend it for most people it because it's an easy way to save yourself the money. But we're happy to add it to your order if you'd like.
Canadian customers
- Yes, we ship massage chairs to Canada often. Total turnaround time is typically about 2 and a half weeks. Free shipping is included on all massage chairs priced above $4999.
- The only other cost you are responsible for is your local sales tax (5% to 13%, depending on your location). We cover all other import costs like duties and customs fees.
